Venice Biennale 2012

The Venice Biennale is the most important event on the international contemporary architecture calendar. Thousands of the world’s most influential architects, designers, urban planners, developers and critics visit the Biennale, with considerable discussion and commentary in the architectural press and general media as a direct result. David Chipperfield, the artistic director for this year’s Biennale, has invited O’Donnell + Tuomey to prepare a special installation. This is to be sited in the Corderie, a prominent location at the centre of the Arsenale exhibition space. O’Donnell + Tuomey’s intention would be to return the timber structure for exhibition in a public space in Ireland in the Spring of 2013. The OPW have committed to provide a site for the public display of the pavilion structure.

GEM Joinery have been collaborating with O’Donnell and Tuomey on their timber structure for the exhibition. We are also delighted to be one of the main sponsors for the piece. GEM Joinery are responsible for design-input, manufacture and installation of the piece in Venice on behalf of O’Donnel + Tuomey. We are also responsible for the dismantling, return and installation of the timber structure back on a site which the OPW have committed to for public display.
